Travel Florida

Over the past several years I've had the opportunity to travel across the country, across the Atlantic and across the equator as a product specialist for a television equipment manufacturer. From California to Germany and from Seattle to Rio De Janeiro, I had the luxury of simply handing in an expense report when I got home.

As much as I enjoyed broadening my horizons intercontinentally, it was the motorcycle rides, weekend getaways and family outings in Florida that stand out in my memory. Here are a few of my favorite places...

Chalet Suzanne has to be at the very top of my "favorites" list.
The Hinshaw family has run this enchanting Inn for over 70 years. Tucked away on a 100 acre estate just north of Lake Wales, Chalet Suzanne's 30 rooms take you back to a time when movie stars visited in the 1930's and where NASA astronauts relaxed in the 60's. More...

Founded in 1821, Micanopy (MICK·uh·NO·pee) occupies it's own special time zone. You'll need to set your watch back about 75 years when walking down the quiet streets of this town. Micanopy's crown jewel is the Herlong Mansion Bed and Breakfast. The mansion has a fascinating history that dates back to the early 1800's. If you want to get away from it all, there's no closer place that's so far away. More...

The Weeki Wachee River is my favorite place to take visitors from out of state.
Here I can show them the real natural beauty of a spring-fed crystal clear river flowing through the swamps and hammocks of the Gulf coast. More...

This is the polar opposite of Orlando's mega-theme parks...
Historic Bok Sanctuary was created by Dutch immigrant Edward W. Bok as his gift to the American people. The sanctuary is home to landscape gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., as well as Florida's first carillon. More...

Busch Gardens is my favorite "close to home" place to visit.
We take advantage of their yearly admission plan. Whether you're in the mood for wild roller-coaster rides with the kids, or a more laid-back walk through the Edge of Africa, Busch Gardens can provide both. More...

Homosassa Springs State Park is about 70 miles north of Tampa along the Gulf coast. The park is really a miniature Florida. The animals, the ecology and the environment have all been replicated for your enjoyment and education in this 200 acre state park. More...
